Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell dodged questions Tuesday about the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s (FBI) raid on former President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida.

McConnell was traveling through the eastern part of Kentucky to discuss disaster relief following deadly storms and floods that hit the state when a reporter asked him about the Mar-a-Lago raid.

“What is your reaction to the FBI raid yesterday at Mar-a-Lago?” the reporter asked McConnell.

The Senate minority leader has yet to publicly comment on the raid despite several of his counterparts coming out forcefully against the unprecedented event.

“What Nixon tried to do, Biden has now implemented: The Biden Admin has fully weaponized DOJ & FBI to target their political enemies,” Republican Texas Sen. Ted Cruz tweeted.

Former Vice President Mike Pence expressed “deep concern … over the unprecedented search of the personal residence of President Trump” and said the incident has “the appearance of continued partnership.”

Trump announced Monday evening that his Mar-a-Lago residence had been raided by the FBI. While the exact reason for the search is unclear, the Department of Justice is investigating the possible mishandling of documents after 15 boxes of classified White House documents that allegedly ended up at Mar-a-Lago.

“These are dark times for our Nation, as my beautiful home, Mar-a-Lago in Palm Beach, Florida, is currently under siege, raided, and occupied by a large group of FBI agents,” Trump said. “Nothing like this has ever happened to a President of the United States before.”
