Women’s rights groups are warning the UN against recognizing the Taliban as a legitimate government of Afghanistan.

In a statement on Thursday, a group of activists said the terrorist group is systematically abusing the rights of women and are covering up such activities to look good from an international perspective. The Taliban has claimed to respect all social groups in the country, but has also said it would base domestic policies off the Islamic Sharia Law.

Activists have continued to stress the Taliban can’t be trusted.

“The predictions were that the Taliban probably had become more moderate and will be more tolerant and acceptance towards the population’s civic liberty,” said former Peace Negotiator Fawzia Koofi. “But the reality is that since they have taken over, there’s been a systemic exclusion of women from social and education’s sphere.”

Activists also say the Taliban is violating the rights of religious minorities as it enforces strict Islamic policies.
