Howard Stern Warns The Rock, Matthew McConaughey About Getting Into Politics

Both Matthew McConaughey and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson have publicly expressed a desire to run for political office one day, but radio shock jock Howard Stern has cautioned against it.

Though McConaughey and Johnson have cast themselves as neutral parties in the pursuit of uniting a divided America, Stern said that the division will inevitably come the moment they share their actual political positions.

“You know what it is with these guys is that they don’t understand, once you run for office, you actually have to give an opinion,” Stern said, as reported by the NY Daily News.

As an example, Stern called Johnson a “lovely guy” and “the most non-controversial human being” he’s ever met. However, once Johnson was to take a stand on an issue like abortion, people on one side or the other will tune out.

“People in the military assume The Rock is pro-military,” Stern said. “People in the police force believe The Rock is a law and order guy. People who are Trumpy believe The Rock really secretly loves Trump. The people who are liberals are going ‘You know what? The Rock is with us.’”

Whether or not Johnson supports abortion or opposes it, once he declares his position, “Oops! Suddenly people don’t like The Rock.”

While McConaughey has been more vague regarding his partisan positions (other than on gun control), Johnson torpedoed his neutral image this past election when he endorsed President Joe Biden and admitted to crying “manly tears” after he was declared the winner.

“As a political independent & centrist, I’ve voted for both parties in the past,” Johnson tweeted. “In this critical presidential election, I’m endorsing [Joe Biden] & [Kamala Harris]. Progress takes courage, humanity, empathy, strength, KINDNESS & RESPECT. We must ALL VOTE[.]”

Upon Biden’s election, Johnson admitted to crying “manly tears” over the prospect of Harris being vice president.

“I wanted to shoot this yesterday, when the news broke, but I got a little emotional, admittedly so, I got a little emotional yesterday, manly tears of course, I may have cried a tear or two, or ten, but they were all very manly. All my tears are manly,” he said.

Johnson went on to say that he got emotional because of what he felt his vote “represented.”

“My vote represented humanity. My vote represented decency,” he continued. “It represented the values and the principles of which we teach our little girls. My vote also, for me, represented the importance of just being a good, decent human being.”

Regarding McConaughey, Stern said that once he makes his gun control positions official while running for governor of Texas, the situation will get a lot more heated.

“As soon as he answers that, half of Texas is going to take him and throw him out a window,” he said.

“Call me old fashion, but you’ve got to do a little public service before you get an important job like the governor,” Stern concluded.
