How much longer can Ron DeSantis wait to declare a White House bid?

Will Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) run for president? That’s the question on everyone’s minds as he continues to make statements that sound more and more like a presidential candidate. After claiming that he could beat President Joe Biden in 2024, he seems to be giving every indication that he will run.

However, there are some obstacles that he must overcome. Most notably, “resign to run” is a Florida law that would require him to relinquish his governorship if he decides to run for president. Despite this, many believe that he still has a chance of winning.

According to recent polls, President Donald Trump still leads the pack in the race for the Republican presidential nomination. However, DeSantis has the support of four super PACs that are urging him to run, and many former Trump supporters have jumped on his bandwagon.

So, when will DeSantis announce his candidacy? Some experts believe that he is waiting too long, while others think that he is biding his time in order to get a better sense of the field. Like Ronald Reagan, who waited until November of 1979 to declare his candidacy for the 1980 election, DeSantis can campaign without actually campaigning. He can focus on his accomplishments as governor while criticizing Biden’s policies, without actively seeking the nomination yet.

In any case, the clock is ticking, and DeSantis will have to make a decision soon. With pressure mounting from Trump to declare his candidacy, and the “resign to run” law hanging over his head, DeSantis will need to decide whether or not to throw his hat in the ring sooner rather than later.
