‘How In the Hell Would This Be Surprising?’ Crenshaw Rips Mayorkas’ Surprise At Surge In Delta Among Illegal Immigrants

On Wednesday, Rep. Dan Crenshaw (R-TX) blasted Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas after Mayorkas said he “didn’t expect” the “tragic rise of the delta variant” at the southern border among illegal immigrants.

Crenshaw fired, “How in the hell would this be ‘surprising?’ Impeach Mayorkas.”

Texas GOP governor Greg Abbott echoed Crenshaw’s call, tweeting, “Mayorkas admits ‘tragic rise’ of delta variant at US-Mexico border ‘surprised him.’ He shouldn’t be surprised. We have long warned about this danger. Biden knowingly imported this danger into U.S. @DanCrenshawTX rightly calls for impeachment.”

On Monday, speaking for the 18th Annual Immigration Law and Policy Conference at Georgetown University, Mayorkas said, “What I didn’t expect was the tragic rise of the delta variant. And we took a step back by reason of that. I did not expect to be in late September where we are. We are confronted with a population of people that, as a general matter, that have a rate of illness of approximately 20%. When one is speaking of 7,000 or 7,500 people encountered at the border every day, if one takes a look at that the system, it is not built for that in a COVID environment where isolation is required,” Fox News reported.

In late July Abbott issued an executive order restricting ground transportation of migrants who posed a risk of carrying COVID-19 into Texas communities. Abbott stated, “”The dramatic rise in unlawful border crossings has also led to a dramatic rise in COVID-19 cases among unlawful migrants who have made their way into our state, and we must do more to protect Texans from this virus and reduce the burden on our communities.This Executive Order will reduce the risk of COVID-19 exposure in our communities.”

As far back as last March, after President Biden said the situation at the southern border was not a crisis, Crenshaw snapped:

It’s the usual euphemisms to cover up their lies, right? If it’s not a crisis, it’s a challenge. It’s not a cage, it’s a soft-sided structure. Look, this is the truth, and everybody needs to understand this: The Democrats and Joe Biden, they want more illegal immigrants crossing our border. They want this.

Now in the past, they always used to say, “We want border security; it’s just that we don’t want  Trump’s big dumb wall. Well, we shouldn’t believe them, because as soon as Joe Biden took office he ripped up agreements with Mexico, the very agreements that were stopping this border crisis. He ripped up agreements with the Northern Triangle countries, ripped up those asylum agreements, and you could see people coming in caravans to the U.S. as Biden was inaugurated, saying, “New president now. Here we come.”

He added, “There’s lines and lines of people, ok? They’re just waiting to come in. You know who they’re cutting in front of? Legal immigrants. … And guess what? Here’s what’s even most infuriating about the COVID-positive cases that you just mentioned. U.S. citizens have to get a negative test before coming back into our country. This administration is prioritizing illegal immigrants over U.S. citizens.”
