House Republicans plan Jan. 6 investigations despite backlash over Tucker Carlson coverage

According to the outlet, Rep. Barry Loudermilk (Republican from Georgia) will lead an inquiry in his role as Chairman of the House Administration Committee’s Subcommittee for Oversight. This investigation will concentrate on Jan. 6, the subcommittee that oversees oversight in the House Administration Committee, and security issues leading up to the Capitol attack.

“I’m spending some time over there getting my hands wrapped around what we have. We’re going to be looking at what happened in the Capitol. What happened leading up to it? How did we have such a security failure?” CNN interviewed Loudermilk. “The Jan. 6 committee, they didn’t take that approach. That should have been something that they looked at. I think they looked more on the political side of it.”

Loudermilk already began to sort through over 2,000,000 documents in connection with the Jan. 6, committee’s investigation. He noted that his efforts are only beginning. “in the infancy stage.” He said that the Georgia Republican intends to keep his efforts going by increasing his staff and holding hearings.

An ex-member of Jan. 6’s committee indicated that the GOP attempts to investigate his work was not surprising, noting that the Republicans have been working hard since they won the House’s midterm elections.

“It’s something that we’ve thought through over the past two years. I knew that there could be political consequences,” CNN was informed by Rep. Pete Aguilar, a Democratic-CA member of the panel that met Jan. 6. “We’ll see what happens — and we’ll be prepared.”

House Oversight Committee expects to launch its own investigation into January 6th riot. The lawmakers will focus on treatment of those rioters who were detained and put in prison. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia (Republican) will partly lead this effort. Taylor Greene stated that earlier this week, she planned to head a group consisting of Republicans who visit Jan.6 defendants and their respective jail facilities.

As Democrats and Republicans criticize McCarthy’s handling the Jan. 6th riot, some Republicans also have concerns about the investigation. McCarthy had previously avoided speaking publicly about the Capitol Attack, but he changed his mind after promising to the right side of his conference that he would revail.
