House of Representatives to Consider Bills to Protect Gas Stoves

The Biden administration’s proposed efficiency and conservation standards for household appliances earlier this year have sparked a debate on the future of gas stoves. In response, the House of Representatives is set to consider two bills aimed at preventing bans on gas stoves.

The Bills

• The Gas Stove Protection and Freedom Act
• The Save Our Gas Stoves Act

The Gas Stove Protection and Freedom Act would prevent federal funds from being used to regulate gas stoves as a hazardous product and imposing or enforcing a rule that would result in a prohibition on the use or sale of gas stoves in the United States. The Save Our Gas Stoves Act would prevent the Department of Energy from implementing the rule and any similar rules from being enacted.

Introduced in March by Reps. Kelly Armstrong (R-ND) and Debbie Lesko (R-AZ), the bills have gained support from those who denounce the Biden administration’s proposed rule.

“The Biden administration’s extreme proposed regulation that will ban nearly every gas stove on the market is just another example of out-of-touch bureaucrats trying to control Americans’ everyday lives,” Lesko said in a statement in March.

If the bills pass both the House and the Senate, it will force President Joe Biden to weigh in on the gas stove debate by either vetoing or approving the bills to prevent a ban of gas stoves.
