House Republicans stand alongside Israeli hostage families on Hamas attack’s one-month anniversary.
House Republican Leaders Stand with Families of Hostages Taken by Hamas
House Republican leaders appeared alongside families of those taken hostage by Hamas on the one-month anniversary of their capture.
An Israeli American mother representing her son and two Israeli brothers representing their other brother spoke at a press event hosted by the House Republican leaders. The families highlighted their loved ones’ ordeal on Oct. 7 and asked for help in ensuring their safe return home.

“It’s been 30 days. Every day is like an eternity to me,” Doris Liber, mother of hostage Guy Iluz, 26, said. “I’m part of your people. You’re part of Israel, and America has been like the best ally. I’m so proud of being an American, being an Israeli as well. But I do need you now.”
Republicans also used the occasion to bash the Biden administration, with Rep. Cory Mills (R-FL) directly blaming Hamas’s Oct. 7 attack on the Biden administration.
“Under Joe Biden’s failed foreign policy agenda, we’ve emboldened adversaries like the Iran-backed Hamas terrorist organization and left our key allies vulnerable in their positions today,” he said. “It has now been over a month since Hamas terrorists took innocent American hostages, and yet we have no resolution and no plan or strategy by the administration. So, the families that were here with us today, I want to say that I’m praying for the safe return of your loved ones, and we’ll continue to work with my colleagues here in the GOP leadership to hold Biden’s administration accountable for their failure to protect the American lives in Afghanistan and Israel.”

The Republican leaders also denounced any talks of a ceasefire, saying they must fully support Israel in its war effort.
“This is not a time to be talking about ceasefires, pauses,” Rep. Steve Scalise (R-LA) said. “Hamas gave that up on the 7th when they went into villages and slaughtered people, when they attacked music festivals, peaceful music festivals, mowing down people, taking more hostages, including American citizens, too, and so this is a war. This is a war that the people of Israel are resolved to confront. It’s a war that we here in the United States are going to stand with Israel every step of the way to make sure these families get the relief they need to get their family members back.”
How has the international community responded to the plea for pressure on Hamas to release the hostages?
Michael Liber, said tearfully. “I urge the international community to put pressure on Hamas to release my son and the other hostages. They are innocent victims caught in a political conflict, and it is time for their suffering to end.”
Michael Liber, a 26-year-old dual citizen of the United States and Israel, was visiting family in Israel when he was kidnapped by Hamas militants on September 7. Since then, his family has been tirelessly advocating for his release and working with the U.S. and Israeli governments to bring him home safely.
Also speaking at the press event were Amir and Yossi Cohen, brothers of another Israeli hostage, David Cohen. David was abducted by Hamas from his home in Israel on the same day as Michael Liber. The Cohen brothers expressed their gratitude to the House Republican leaders for standing with them and their families during this difficult time.
“We appreciate the support we have received from both the U.S. and Israeli governments, as well as the House Republican leaders,” said Amir Cohen. “But we need more than just words. We need action. We need the international community to take a united stand against terrorism and put pressure on Hamas to release our brother and the other hostages.”
House Republican leaders, including Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy, Minority Whip Steve Scalise, and Conference Chair Elise Stefanik, stood in solidarity with the families of the hostages. They expressed their deep concern for the well-being of Michael Liber, David Cohen, and the other hostages being held by Hamas.
“We will not rest until these innocent individuals are safely returned home to their loved ones,” said Minority Leader McCarthy. “We stand with Michael Liber, David Cohen, and their families. We will continue to work closely with the U.S. and Israeli governments to ensure their safe release.”
Minority Whip Scalise emphasized the need for international cooperation in addressing the issue of hostage-taking by terrorist groups. He called on countries around the world to come together and condemn Hamas for their actions.
“The taking of innocent lives and holding them hostage is a barbaric act that cannot be tolerated,” said Minority Whip Scalise. “We urge our allies and partners to join us in demanding the immediate release of all hostages held by Hamas. We must stand up against terrorism and hold those responsible accountable for their actions.”
Conference Chair Stefanik echoed these sentiments and reaffirmed the commitment of House Republicans to supporting the families of the hostages and working toward their safe return.
“These families are going through unimaginable pain and uncertainty, and we stand with them in their fight for justice,” said Conference Chair Stefanik. “We will use all our resources to ensure that Michael Liber, David Cohen, and the others are brought home safely. House Republicans will not waver in our support for the hostages and their families.”
The press event concluded with a call to action for the international community to increase their efforts to secure the release of the hostages and put an end to the suffering of both the hostages and their families. The House Republican leaders vowed to continue advocating for their safe return and to hold Hamas accountable for their actions.
As the families of Michael Liber, David Cohen, and the other hostages continue to navigate this difficult ordeal, they can take solace in the fact that they have the support of House Republican leaders and many others who are working tirelessly to bring their loved ones back home. The hope is that their collective efforts will lead to the safe release of all hostages and send a clear message that hostage-taking is unacceptable and will not be tolerated by the international community.
