House Republican Leader Diagnosed with Blood Cancer
House Republican leader Steve Scalise announced on Tuesday that he has been diagnosed with multiple myeloma, a common form of blood cancer.
“I am incredibly grateful we were able to detect this early and that this cancer is treatable,” Scalise said in a statement.
Despite his diagnosis, Scalise reassured everyone that he would continue working diligently throughout the months-long treatment.
Scalise, who represents Louisiana and holds the No. 2-ranking position among Republicans in the House, has house-republican-leader-steve-scalise-diagnosed-with-blood-cancer/” title=”Steve Scalise, House Republican Leader, diagnosed with blood cancer.”>faced significant health challenges in the past.
In 2017, he was injured in a shooting during a practice session for an annual charity baseball game. Scalise underwent multiple surgeries to repair internal organs and broken bones following the assault.
Positive News from the Political Arena
Scalise’s announcement comes after Rep. Jamie Raskin, a Democrat from Maryland, revealed in December that he had been diagnosed with a form of lymphoma. However, Raskin shared the uplifting news in April that he was in remission.
It is encouraging to witness politicians from different parties overcoming health challenges and continuing to serve their constituents.
