Magnification to Reverse the DC Policing Bill is passed by the House.

On April 19, the U.S. House approved a declaration to oppose the Comprehensive Policing and Justice Reform Amendment Act of 2022 passed by the District of Columbia.

Vote 229 – 189 was cast. All 215 Republicans and 14 Democrats voted in favor of the quality. In the Democratic-led Senate, it is unlikely that the quality will move forward.

Neck restraints or any other method that causes asphyxiation, presents an unnecessary risk to the public, and constitutes excessive force would be prohibited by D. C. law from being used by the District of Columbia’s’s Metropolitan Police Department( MPD ) and other local law enforcement personnel.

With a few exceptions, the president is required by the law, which the city government passed in December 2022, to release any police body camera footage that contains the details of the soldiers who were directly involved in the officer’s’s death or serious use of force.

However, the mayor is unable to release footage if the next of kin of an officer who died as a result of the officer’s’s death or” the person against whom the serious use of force was used” refuses to do so. This is known as the” insignificant or incompetent person.”

Additionally, the act gives District of Columbia Housing Authority Police Department ( DCHAPD ) members the authority to” make arrests, carry weapons, and carry out other duties typically reserved for Metropolitan Police Officers”

Additionally, it permits D. C.’ s Office of the Inspector General ( OIG ) employees to” carry a gun, make warrantless arrests for felony offenses, and serve as affiants for search warrants.” DCHA and OIG are subject to the same monitoring and procedure as those used to handle objections against MPD officials under the law.

The law would create a Police Complaints Board with nine members, including one representative from each of D.C. ‘ s eight rooms and one at-large member. The D. C. Council, which has 90 day to work on the nomination, must confirm the customers, who are chosen by the president.

The appointment is rejected if there isn’t a ballot on the nomination within that time frame. The mayor would lose his or her authority to choose the board’s’s chairman as a result of the work. However, the president has the authority to fire a council member for good reason.

Republicans have criticized the police and justice overhaul test for being harsh on legislation enforcement.

Rep. Andrew Garbarino( R-N) stated that” this Joint Resolution would approve of the Comprehensive Policing and Justice Reform Amendment Act of 2022, which was passed by the D. C. Council in rebellion of very real health issues raised by law police.” Y .) The Washington Post reported. It’s’s time to stop using the anti-police narrative, starting in the capital of our country, and say” enough is enough.”

The disapproval resolution was introduced by Rep. Andrew Clyde( R-Ga. ), who referred to D. C. ‘ s pending law as an” anti-police measure.”

Eleanor Holmes Norton, a D. C. parliamentary member, voiced her disapproval of the GOP quality.

Since there is always a reason for Congress to invalidate legislation passed by D. C., but I would like to set the record straight, she said on the House ground,” The congressional history and virtues of the Comprehensive Policing and Justice Reform Amendment Act of 2022, which is the subject of this disdain resolution, may be useless.”

The Comprehensive Policing and Justice Reform Amendment Act of 2022, which would bolster c., had, among other things, make it simpler to light officers for misconduct, forbid the training of officers who had previously engaged in misconduct. It would also require the launch of the names and body-worn camera recordings of those who were directly involved in an officer-related death or serious use of force.
