The House ⁣Ways and Means Committee Subpoenas DOJ and IRS Officials

The House Ways and Means Committee ​has issued a subpoena for officials‍ at the Department of Justice (DOJ) and Internal Revenue Service (IRS) to investigate allegations‌ of interference in the case ⁢against⁤ Hunter‍ Biden, son of President Joe Biden.

During an Oct. 7, 2022, meeting, IRS investigators Gary Shapley and Joseph Ziegler testified that U.S. Attorney ‍David Weiss claimed he was being prevented ‍from ⁢pursuing charges ⁢against Hunter Biden by higher-ups at ‌the DOJ.

The committee has requested voluntary interviews with these officials on multiple occasions, ‌but the DOJ ⁣and IRS⁤ have refused to comply, leading ⁢to the issuance of a subpoena.

Ways and Means ​Committee Chairman Jason Smith⁤ (R-Mo.) and House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) released a joint statement criticizing the Biden administration for “stonewalling” Congress and questioning​ Attorney ‍General Merrick Garland’s appointment of David Weiss as special counsel.

“Our Committees have sought these interviews since IRS whistleblowers‍ came forward with concerning allegations of‍ political interference in the investigation into Hunter Biden’s foreign influence peddling and tax evasion,” ​they wrote. “Unfortunately, the Biden Administration has ⁣consistently stonewalled‍ Congress.”

The subpoenas are ⁣seen as ‍crucial in ⁢uncovering the truth behind the special treatment given to Hunter Biden and determining who made the final decision⁤ in his case.

Allegations of Interference

IRS investigators Gary‍ Shapley and ​Joseph Ziegler have made allegations of interference by the DOJ in the investigation into Hunter Biden.

According to their testimony, career DOJ officials delayed necessary investigative steps and Assistant U.S.⁣ Attorney ​Lesley Wolf stated that a search warrant for evidence in Joe Biden’s guest house would⁢ never be approved due⁤ to optics.

Furthermore,‍ Hunter Biden’s attorneys were allegedly provided ‌with⁤ crucial information about the investigation,⁣ including advance knowledge of documents ⁢stored in a⁤ storage unit that could be used against ⁤their client.

One of the most significant claims is that​ U.S. ⁤Attorney David ⁣Weiss was blocked from pursuing more serious charges against Hunter Biden in California and Washington.

Attorney General ⁣Merrick⁢ Garland has‌ denied these allegations, but the House​ committees are determined to uncover the truth.
