House Democrats have continued to target President Trump, his family and Republican lawmakers as part of a probe into the Capitol protests. Reports on Monday revealed the January 6 Committee planned to request phone companies preserve records of the 45th president and his GOP allies in connection with the “Stop the Steal” rally.

Notices to phone companies have been set to go out this week, but the move would likely face legal challenges. GOP lawmakers have responded to these requests by asserting they had nothing to hide and added although they would comply, these requests were a waste of taxpayer funds.

This comes just days after the panel sent requests to eight government agencies for communications and documents from within the Trump White House. The committee also made demands for 15 social media companies to submit records related to January 6.

Trump vowed to fight for what he has called a “partisan sham” by claiming executive privilege over the records.
