House Jan. 6 Committee Reaches Agreement to Interview Wife of Supreme Court Justice, Ginni Thomas

Virginia “Ginni” Thomas, the wife of Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas, will appear before the House select committee investigating the Jan. 6 breach of the U.S. Capital in the coming weeks.

Her attorney, Mark Paoletta, confirmed in a statement that his client and committee members had come to an agreement regarding her appearance.

“I can confirm that Ginni Thomas has agreed to participate in a voluntary interview with the Committee,” Paoletta said. “As she has said from the outset, Mrs. Thomas is eager to answer the Committee’s questions to clear up any misconceptions about her work relating to the 2020 election. She looks forward to that opportunity.”

CNN was the first to report on the agreement.

Thomas’s planned appearance was announced shortly after the committee confirmed that it would hold its next public hearing next week on Sept. 28. That hearing is likely to be the final hearing on the matter unless new developments are made, Chair Bennie Thompson (D-Miss.) told reporters on Tuesday.

Thomas has previously drawn scrutiny over her communication with former White House chief of Staff Mark Meadows and legal expert John Eastman.

CNN reports that the panel obtained email communications between Thomas and Eastman, as well as text messages between her and Meadows that were sent prior to the Capitol breach.

In one such message to Meadows, she wrote: “Help This Great President stand firm, Mark!!! … You are the leader, with him, who is standing for America’s constitutional governance at the precipice. The majority knows Biden and the Left is attempting the greatest Heist of our History.”

Supporters Point to Political Bias

After her communications with Eastman and Meadows came to light, Thomas was widely criticized by Democrats who claimed that she had attempted to “overturn the 2020 election.”
