House Investigators Speak With Biden Aide For Docs Inquiry

Kathy Chung, a former assistant to President Joe Biden and currently a Pentagon official, was interviewed by House Oversight Committee investigators on Tuesday. According to Chairman James Comer (R-KY), Chung provided “startling information that undermines the Biden White House’s narrative.” Chung is a central figure in the controversy over the handling of classified documents by President Biden and his team, having overseen the transport of materials to the Penn Biden Center. Boxes containing classified materials were stored in three different locations around Washington, D.C., including an office near the White House, an office in Chinatown, and eventually the Penn Biden Center. The boxes containing classified materials were not in a locked closet at the Penn Biden Center and remained accessible to Penn Biden Center employees and others with access to the office space. “We need to find out who had access to these documents,” said Comer. Dana Remus, the then-White House Counsel, tasked Chung with retrieving these boxes from the Penn Biden Center as early as May 2022, contrary to claims by President Biden’s attorney that the story begins in November 2022.

The top Democrat on the Oversight Committee, Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-MD), also released a statement about the interview with Chung. Raskin criticized the Republicans for not focusing more on former President Donald Trump’s conduct, and accused them of knowingly misrepresenting Chung’s work and promoting “a baseless, outrageous, and racist conspiracy theory about her.” Chung repeatedly explained that she was unaware of the alleged classified documents at the Penn Biden Center until November 2022, when the documents were discovered by counsel for President Biden. Biden’s personal attorneys and the White House have stated that they are cooperating with the National Archives and Justice Department in the investigation.

Special counsel Robert Hur is also investigating whether any laws were broken in connection with the handling of classified records found at the Penn Biden Center and other locations, including the President’s homes in Delaware.
