House GOP to request FBI Director Christopher Wray to ‘rectify his testimony’.
House Republicans Plan to Hold FBI Director Accountable
House Republicans are taking action to ensure that FBI Director Christopher Wray is held accountable for his contradictory statements made under oath. Rep. Mike Johnson (R-LA) and House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan (R-OH) are preparing a letter to request that Wray correct his testimony given to Congress last week. This letter will be sent in the coming days.
Addressing Contradictions and Constitutional Rights
During an appearance on Fox News, Rep. Johnson emphasized the importance of pointing out the contradictions in Wray’s testimony. He stated, ”We are going to point out the contradictions and what he said under oath, and we’ll start with that.” Johnson also highlighted the significance of the appropriations process, stating that the FBI’s request for a $4 billion new headquarters must be reconsidered if they fail to uphold the constitutional rights of the people they serve.
While Johnson acknowledged that impeaching every agency head in the Biden administration may not be feasible, he stressed the need for House Republicans to exercise their power. He stated, ”The power of the purse is a big one,” indicating that they will utilize the resources available to them.
Defending FBI Actions
Wray recently attended a congressional hearing on the alleged weaponization of the FBI, where he defended the agency’s actions over the past few years. This includes the FBI’s investigation into former President Donald Trump’s handling of classified documents and the search of his Mar-a-Lago residence. Wray also addressed the bureau’s alleged targeting of parents protesting at school board meetings.
Trump’s Regretful Hiring Decision
Former President Trump, who is running for president in 2024, admitted that hiring Wray as FBI director was a mistake. In an interview, Trump revealed that he was strongly recommended to hire Wray by former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie. However, Trump expressed regret, stating, “Yeah, sadly, it probably was. It was recommended very strongly by Chris Christie, who was, you know, a sad case. I mean, I watch him. He’s a sad case.”
Contrary to Trump’s opinion, Christie believes that Wray is a “good guy” who has the potential to address and resolve many of the issues within the FBI. Christie, who is also running for president in 2024, did not commit to firing Wray if he were to become president.
