Some House Republicans are optimistic about President Donald Trump’s firing of Attorney General Pam Bondi as they continue to seek answers on files related to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
Trump fired Bondi on Thursday, two months after the hearing over her handling of the Epstein files went viral. He named Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche as her interim replacement.
Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY), one of the co-authors of the Epstein Files Transparency Act, said he supports Bondi’s firing on X.
“I hope the next AG will release all the Epstein files according to the law and follow up with investigations, prosecutions, and arrests,” Massie said on X.
Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC) addressed rumors that Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Lee Zeldin could succeed Bondi and said she would “welcome” his appointment.
“Bondi handled the Epstein Files in a terrible manner and made this situation far worse than it had to be for President Trump,” Mace said on X. “I look forward to a new Attorney General committed to getting justice for the victims of Jeffrey Epstein.”
Rep. Ro Khanna (D-CA), and Massie’s co-author of the Epstein files legislation, said historians would remember the bill as “the turning point in standing up” to Trump’s Justice Department and “the decadeslong cover-up protecting rich and powerful men who abused young girls.”
“The Epstein files cover-up took down Bondi,” Khanna said. “@RepThomasMassie & I have been calling for accountability since she violated our Epstein Transparency Act. Congress does not need to be a doormat. The Senate must fight to make sure Bondi is not replaced with another lawless sycophant.”
Trump signed Massie and Khanna’s bill into law in November 2025.

Massie’s support of Trump firing Bondi comes as he has been a critic of the sitting president, drawing Trump’s ire as the Kentucky lawmaker faces a primary election next month. Massie said in February that Trump is in charge of “the Epstein administration” and claimed the administration is “attacking me for trying to get these files released.”
Rep. Robert Garcia (D-CA), a ranking member of House Oversight Democrats, said Bondi will still need to testify before Congress this month. The deposition will be held on April 14.
