Hot Potatoes And Insults Fly In Report Detailing Allegations From Katie Porter’s Messy Divorce

A new report has brought attention to accusations that arose during Rep. Katie Porter’s (D-CA) divorce from her ex-husband a decade ago.

The Daily Mail published details from the divorce on Wednesday, just as Porter announced her run for U.S. Senate in the 2024 elections.

Their four-year marriage became troubled while Porter worked as a law professor and Hoffman stayed home to care for their three children. They attended anger management classes together in 2009. The aftermath was messy as Hoffman alleged Porter was verbally abusive, calling him a “f***ing idiot” and not allowing him to have a cell phone. Porter was also accused of dumping a bowl of hot mashed potatoes on his head in 2006. Both parties were given restraining orders.

The couple agreed on Porter paying Hoffman for spousal and child support and that she would have custody of their children for 70% of the time following their 2014 divorce.

Porter, who seeks to succeed Sen. Dianne Feinstein in 2024, has also recently faced allegations of being a verbally abusive boss and making racist comments.
