Hoover Dam turns red, white, and blue for America 250
The Hoover Dam, located on the Nevada-Arizona border, has been fitted with a patriotic America-250 display featuring red, white, adn blue lights and a large American flag suspended across the structure. The “road to America250” installation honors service members who died in the line of duty,and Nevada and Arizona governors attended the unveiling. The flag-measuring 300 feet wide by 150 feet tall and weighing about 2,000 pounds-had previously been used for NFL game displays by the Indianapolis Colts and Las Vegas Raiders. Built from 1931 to 1936, the dam is also being highlighted as a historic engineering achievement, and the lights are planned to be visible each evening through July Fourth, weather permitting.
The Hoover Dam, which lies on the state line between Nevada and Arizona, is getting a star-spangled upgrade for America 250, complete with lights and a massive American flag.
The installation launched the “road to America250” and honored men and women who gave their lives in service to the country, according to a press release.

Red, white, and blue lights illuminate the dam, along with a 300-foot-wide by 150-foot-tall American flag suspended across it that weighs 2,000 pounds.
The same flag was previously used during the Indianapolis Colts and Las Vegas Raiders football games.
Governors from Nevada and Arizona attended the unveiling ceremony.
“America’s promise has always been renewed by generations willing to make this country freer, safer, stronger, and more prosperous than they found it. That is the promise of America. And there is no greater testament to that spirit than Hoover Dam,” Gov. Katie Hobbs (D-AZ) said.
“For generations, Hoover Dam has stood as one of the greatest engineering achievements in American history. It represents determination, ingenuity, hard work, and the willingness of Americans to take on challenges that once seemed impossible,” Gov. Joe Lombardo (R-NV) said.
The Hoover Dam was constructed during the Great Depression from 1931 to 1936. It helped transform the region’s growth as an iconic infrastructure achievement.

Twenty-one thousand men worked on the project, according to the press release. It served as a symbol of American ingenuity and resilience.
The light display will be visible during the evenings through July Fourth, weather permitting.
