Honest Dems Are Well Aware the Border Isn’t Secure
Democratic Rep. Henry Cuellar of Texas essentially called Vice President Kamala Harris a liar on Fox News Sunday this morning, and he’s right.
A month ago, Harris absurdly claimed the U.S. border with Mexico is “secure,” and the White House ever since then has insistently repeated this flagrant lie.

Cuellar, who claims to be a conservative despite a paltry 7% rating from the American Conservative Union in 2020, corrected the record Sunday by saying the obvious, namely that the border “is not secure.” He noted that U.S. customs officials caught a record 20 terrorism suspects in September and that “when you had 1.7 million [illegal] individuals last year, and now another 2.7, that’s over 4.5 million individuals encountered at the border. Plus, if you add the getaways, that’s going to be over 5 million individuals in just two years. No, the border is not secure, and we’ve got to make sure that we have repercussions there.”
On this, Cuellar is right. And the ramifications are dire. As columnist Deroy Murdock wrote earlier this month, “The U.S. Department of Homeland Security reports that the Mexican cartels’ income from smuggling illegal aliens into America has soared from $500 million in 2018 to $13 billion this year — up 2,500%.”
And, speaking of those “getaways,” Murdock wrote: “In fiscal year 2020, the last one fully under Trump’s control, 69,000 illegal aliens were detected on the ‘border,’ but got away into America’s interior. Fiscal year 2021 (four months of Trump, eight of Biden) witnessed 389,155 got-aways — up 464%. In fiscal year 2022 (all on Biden’s watch), got-aways hit 599,000 — up 54% versus fiscal year 2021 and 768% compared with fiscal year 2020.”
This is both a humanitarian disaster and a crisis of U.S. sovereignty.
At least Cuellar understands that the only way to keep his seat is to admit the awful truth about his party’s mismanagement, or deliberate failure to maintain sovereignty, at the border. If Harris and the whole Biden team would stop lying and start doing their jobs, Cuellar’s moment of truth-telling wouldn’t be at all remarkable.
But the Biden-created crisis is real, and it’s a major reason Democrats are likely to get their House majority overwhelmingly defeated in elections two weeks hence.
