Hispanic Democrats In Connecticut Introduce Bill To Ban Woke Term ‘Latinx’

A group of Hispanic Democrats living in the state Connecticut A bill was introduced to ban the woke expression “Latinx” From state communications.

Five Democratic members of the state House of Representatives wrote the bill. All five are Hispanic. The bill was at least partly inspired by Arkansas Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders’ move to ban the term “Latinx” From the state government. This move was also met with widespread disapproval among Latinos.

The Text of the bill reads:

[T]These are the general statutes [shall] be amended to prohibit any state agency or employee working for a state agency from using the term “Latinx” on official communications and forms of the state agency.

It was introduced in the state House by five members: Geraldo C. Reyes and Christopher Rosario; Juan R. Candelaria; Robert Sanchez and Minnie Gonz.

Reyes attacked the word “Latinx” itself as a woke term that is offensive to the Constitution State’s sizeable Hispanic population; some 17.7% of the residents are Hispanic, according to the Census Bureau. “I’m of Puerto Rican descent and I find it offensive,” Reyes said the Associated Press. “The Spanish language, which is centuries old, defaults to Latino for everybody. It’s all-inclusive. They didn’t need to create a word, it already exists.”

Arkansas Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders It was declared illegal to use the word These documents were taken from January’s state records. “All state offices, departments, and agencies, unless granted an exemption by the Governor, shall review official documents of their respective entities regarding the use of the term ‘Latinx,’ ‘latinx,’ ‘Latinxs,’ or ‘latinxs’ in official state documents,” Her order stated. The order directed agencies to identify any instances of the term in state documents and replace them all within 60 days. “Hispanic,” “Latino,” Oder “Latina.”

“This has been offensive and derogatory to all Puerto Ricans, and it’s something that hasn’t sat well with a lot of people here for a while.” Reyes, added to CT Insider. “When I found out that Arkansas Gov. [Sanders] banned it on her first day in the office, I saw that as an opportunity for me to do the same thing.” Reyes, however, criticized Sanders’ move, saying she had “other motivations” Arkansas government documents ban the use of the word.

A search for the State website It was found that at least 920 state documents include the word “Latinx.”

A National poll In October, only 1% of Hispanics identified themselves as Hispanics. “Latinx,” Hispanics were subjected to the gender-neutrality of this term by left-wing culture. WPA Intelligence was a conservative polling company that worked with Visto Media for the Latino advocacy organization Bienvenido. They conducted a poll among 1,288 Hispanic voters who were registered as Republican, Democrat, or Independent.

The poll revealed that Hispanics prefer to be identified with the community, while Latinos and Americans are preferred.

Respondents to the poll were asked to choose from a list of options as to why many Hispanics have not embraced the term — a combined 35% of Democrats blamed Hispanics rejecting the made-up term on “machismo culture” Oder “too much homophobia and transphobia among Hispanics.”

Another reason Democrats think the term has not caught on in Hispanic culture is that it’s too limiting. “right-wing disinformation” Hispanics pride themselves on their culture as it is. About 14%, however, don’t know what it means.

Meanwhile, most Republicans said it’s because Hispanics like their culture.

Brandon Drey contributed to the report.
