Hidin’ Biden: POTUS Holds Fewest Press Conferences Of Any President In 40 Years

President Joe Biden promised to bring transparency and truth back to the government, but he’s falling short on that promise. According to The New York Times, Biden has held the fewest press conferences since Ronald Reagan, averaging just 10 per year during his first two years in office. That’s half as many as his predecessor, Donald Trump, who held 19.5 during his first two years. Even Barack Obama and Bill Clinton held more press conferences than Biden.

Biden is also avoiding foreign press, skipping the tradition of holding press conferences with foreign leaders while abroad. Instead, he’s trying to connect with Americans directly. But is that really the best strategy? The liberal Times called out the president, saying that his strategy of keeping the press at arm’s length is a bet that he can sidestep those traditions in a new media environment. And it’s public evidence that Mr. Biden’s political strategists want to protect him from the unscripted exchanges that have often resulted in missteps and criticism.

Biden is a self-described “gaffe machine,” and by avoiding the media, he’s avoiding making verbal mistakes. But is that really the best strategy for a president? The gaffes are always inconsequential, but they still show a lack of attention to detail and a lack of respect for the people he’s supposed to be serving.

The White House says that Biden is trying to adapt to the changing nature of information consumption, but is that really an excuse for avoiding the press? The media may be fracturing, but the president still has a responsibility to be transparent and accountable to the American people.
