Hey Republicans, If Ron DeSantis Didn’t Hug You, It Will Be OK

Hold up, folks! We’ve got a serious question here: Is David Trott’s wife embarrassed for him?

Now, you might not have heard of Trott before, and that’s okay. He only served two terms in Congress and didn’t really accomplish anything noteworthy. But he did manage to resurface last week under some pretty questionable circumstances: He emailed a Washington reporter to talk about the time he wanted the attention of another man, only to be ignored.

According to Politico’s widely read “Playbook” newsletter, Trott sent a “surprising email” in which he recounted sitting “right next” to then-fellow Republican Congressman Ron DeSantis, who is now the governor of Florida and a likely presidential candidate. “He never said a single word to me,” Trott said in the note. “I was new to Congress, and he didn’t introduce himself or even say hello.”

The Politico reporter called Trott for more details, and Trott eagerly provided them. “I go to my first [House Foreign Affairs Committee] hearing early, and DeSantis showed up right at the gavel time and didn’t say hello or introduce himself,” he said. “And then the next hearing, the same thing happened. I think the third time it happened, I thought, ‘Oh, this guy’s not ever going to say hello to me.'”

So, what did Trott conclude from this experience? That DeSantis is “an -sshole.” Yes, you read that right. This is a man in his 60s who took note of another man’s lack of interest in him and watched him every day, waiting for a hello that never came. And it still weighs on him to this day.

But wait, it gets weirder. Trott is actually married to a woman named Kappy, which makes his grudge all the more bizarre.

And he’s not the only one. Republican Rep. Greg Steube has complained in two separate interviews that he wasn’t able to stand next to DeSantis at an event in his Florida district. Yes, you read that right, too. He’s endorsed Donald Trump for president, but what is it about DeSantis that makes grown, allegedly heterosexual men behave this way?

Republicans, endorse whomever you want, but please, don’t publicly humiliate yourselves like this. It’s just not a good look.
