Near-Fatal Shooting of Red Sox Legend David Ortiz: Gunman and 9 Others Convicted

A Dominican court sentenced 10 people in connection with the 2019 attempted murder to legendary Boston Red Sox Officials confirmed Tuesday that David Ortiz is a slugger.

The man ambushed the baseball Hall of Famer While Ortiz was out with his friends in Santo Domingo, he was shot in the back.

Santo Domingo’s First Collegiate Court sent two men to prison, one of them Rolfi Ferreras Cru, the other alleged shooter.

Víctor Hugo Gómez Vásquez, the alleged mastermind behind the attack, along with two other defendants, were acquitted due to the lack of sufficient evidence.

Eight others were sentenced to prison for between 5 and 20 years.

Alberto Miguel Rodriguez Mota (28), was sentenced for 20 years. Rodriguez Mota is “the person who paid those who carried out the act” against Ortiz, according the Dominican Republic’s Office of Attorney General.

Oliver Moises Mirabal, 28; and Eduardo Ciprian Lebron 24 each received ten years in prison.

Gabriel Alexander Perez Vizcaino (31) and Joel Rodriguez de la Cruz (28) were sentenced respectively to nine and six year sentences.

Franklin Junior Meran, 26, Junior Cesar La Hoz Vargas, 28, and Porfirio Ayendi Dechamps Vasquez, 29, received five-year sentences.

The charges against the defendants include attempted murder, conspiracy to use illegal firearms, and association with criminals.
