‘Guardians Of The Galaxy: Volume 3’ earns nearly $300M in successful opening weekend.

Guardians of the Galaxy: Volume 3 Rocks the Box Office

The latest offering from the Marvel cinematic universe, Guardians of the Galaxy: Volume 3, has taken the box office by storm. The film raked in $114 million domestically and another $168 million from foreign markets in its opening weekend alone. This means that the movie is already more than a quarter of the way to the coveted $1 billion benchmark.

A Slightly Short Domestic Opening

Despite the impressive numbers, the third installment of the Guardians franchise fell slightly short of expectations. The film was expected to bring in $120 million domestically, but it only managed to earn $114 million. However, it still managed to rate between the first and second films in the franchise.

Global Success

The movie’s global success is undeniable. It brought in an additional $168 million from 52 markets, including $28 million from China. This brings the worldwide box office total to an impressive $282 million.

Chris Pratt Shines

The film, which stars Chris Pratt as Star-Lord, dominated the domestic box office by almost $100 million for the weekend. It was followed by another Pratt-led film, Super Mario Bros., which brought in just over $18 million.

Super Mario Bros. Ties with Guardians 2

The video game-based animated film tied with the second Guardians film in its first weekend at the domestic box office, opening the first week in April with $146 million. Since then, it has become the first film of 2023 to pass the $1 billion benchmark globally and is touted as the most successful video game-based film in movie history.

Half of the Billion-Dollar Club Headlined by Pratt

Since the start of the pandemic, only five movies have reached the billion-dollar mark. If Guardians of the Galaxy: Volume 3 makes the cut and brings the total to six, half of them will be headlined by Chris Pratt.
