Greg Abbott goes after lenient attorneys who refuse to enforce abortion laws.

Gov. Abbott Takes Aim at “Rogue” Left-Wing District Attorneys

In a bold move, Governor Greg Abbott of Texas has unveiled a new bill that aims to hold “rogue” left-wing district attorneys accountable for their refusal to prosecute certain crimes. This groundbreaking legislation, known as House Bill 17, empowers the removal of county or district attorneys who fail to uphold the law.

While the bill was primarily motivated by concerns over attorneys neglecting to enforce abortion restrictions, it also addresses a growing trend of left-wing district attorneys turning a blind eye to other lower-level offenses like drug possession and theft.

Abbott took to Twitter to announce the signing of the new law, stating, “A new law I signed will help reign in rogue district attorneys. Those who want to work in Texas law enforcement must uphold the laws and protect Texans. If not, they will be held accountable.”

HB 17 introduces a mechanism for concerned citizens to file a motion to dismiss a district or county attorney suspected of neglecting their duty to enforce the law. If the motion is accepted, the attorney in question will face a trial by jury. Notably, public statements expressing a refusal to enforce the law serve as grounds for dismissal.

“A public declaration or announcement by a district attorney or a county attorney of an intent to prohibit the enforcement of any criminal offense is prima facie evidence of an adoption or implementation of a formal or stated policy for purposes of this chapter,” the bill reads.

With this groundbreaking legislation, Governor Abbott is sending a clear message that no one is above the law, and those entrusted with upholding justice must fulfill their duty. The battle against “rogue” left-wing district attorneys has begun, and Texas is leading the charge.
