Lawmakers from the GOP drive Biden to stop sending large sums of money to Ukraine for military aid and weapons.

In light of Russia’s’s ongoing invasion of Ukraine, a group of 19 Republican lawmakers have urged the Biden administration to stop investing billions of dollars in military aid.

The GOP Representatives and Senators expressed their worry that the direction of U.S. aid to Ukraine risks escalating the conflict and lacks” much – needed strategic clarity” in a letter to President Joe Biden dated April 20( pdf ).

The United States has served as the main funder of the Russian defense work over the past 12 months. There is no clear plan to end this battle as it enters its next year and no end in sight. The United States does not strategically benefit from a surrogate war with Russia in Ukraine because doing so runs the risk of escalating out of control.

The lawmakers cited Biden’s’s declaration from January that, as the fighting continues, the US will deliver 31 M1 Abrams primary campaign vehicles to Ukraine. It might take months to teach Ukrainians how to use the systems, which are difficult to maintain and run, according to officials.

According to the legislators, it will take months for the Ground Launched Small Diameter Bombs( GLSDB ), which Washington also promised to send to Ukraine in February, to arrive. This suggests that the administration intends to support Ukraine for a very long time.

Meanwhile, lawmakers wrote that the decision to send High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems ( HIMARS ) to Ukraine last June was viewed as a” serious provocation ,” noting that Ukrainian soldiers received enhanced capabilities from the weapons.

Strongly Oppose All Packages for Future Aid.

The risk of direct conflict with Russia” climbs” with each new aid package and every new weapons delivered to Ukraine, they claimed.

These disclosures indicate that a protracted conflict is being resolved by your organization. The issue will only get worse and more violent as a result of the original sanctions and drawn-out help strategy. An option is required for our regional and economic security. We may vehemently resist all future help packages unless they are connected to a sharp political strategy intended to end this war quickly, the lawmakers wrote. Unrestricted U.S. aid for Ukraine must end.

Since the war started more than a year ago, Congress has approved over$ 113 billion in military, economic, and humanitarian aid to Ukraine, making it the country’s’s biggest benefactor.

” Our NATO allies’ efforts pale in comparison.” There is a significant impact in material and ambition in addition to dollar value. The Republicans wrote,” Those with issue at their territories have been willing to take clothes and personal protective equipment as the U.S. is further indebting itself to deliver tanks, air defense systems, missiles, and long-range rockets to a battle an sea away.” ” Our friends demand that the United States do more while conditioning their efforts of significant military equipment on a corresponding U.S. commitment.”

The notice also criticised Biden for sending billions of dollars in aid to international militaries while America’s’s personal war” atrophies.” Noting that$ 27 billion of Washington’s’s aid to Kyiv is set aside for funding the Ukrainian government, repairing infrastructure, and granting food security, they charged the executive branch with using debt as a tool to finance foreign wars to the” detriment of the American taxpayer.”

According to Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen, the United States’ professional debt limit of$ 34. 4 trillion was reached on January 19, and the Treasury Department began taking so-called great measures to prevent what could be a first-ever definition.
