GOP candidate’s plane loses oxygen mid-flight, personal appearance canceled.
Republican Presidential Contender Forced to Cancel Campaign Stop Due to Plane Issue
Republican presidential contender Vivek Ramaswamy had to cancel a campaign stop in Michigan on Monday after his private jet experienced depressurization. The unexpected cabin depressurization issue forced the entrepreneur’s plane to make an emergency landing, but fortunately, no injuries were reported.
Ramaswamy’s campaign released a statement explaining the situation and announcing that he would still appear at the event via Zoom. “I am glad that we can use technology to still engage with one another,” Ramaswamy said in the statement.

The virtual event, which eventually took place, had an audience of about 60 people. Depressurization, as explained by the Daily Caller, refers to the loss of oxygen in the plane’s cabin, which can lead to hypoxia and affect the brain.
Randy Padfield, former chief operating officer of Aviation International News, explained in a 2014 report that the lack of oxygen can cause confusion, impaired thinking, and eventually, loss of consciousness and death.
Ramaswamy, who was originally heading to an event in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, had to speak from Columbus, Ohio, where he owns a home. Despite the incident, he expressed gratitude that everyone on board, including his wife and two sons, was safe.
Although some attendees were disappointed by the last-minute change, Ramaswamy assured them that he would return to Michigan in a week. NBC reported that a woman in the crowd even suggested that he could have driven from Ohio instead of canceling the appearance.
This is not the first time aircraft issues have affected Ramaswamy’s campaign. He had to cancel events in Iowa and Nevada in July due to similar problems. However, he defended his use of private flights, emphasizing the efficiency and necessity of reaching multiple destinations quickly.
During his campaign, Ramaswamy has made various policy proposals, including making Election Day a national holiday. He suggested canceling an existing holiday, such as Juneteenth, to accommodate this change.
Despite the challenges he has faced, Ramaswamy remains determined to connect with voters and continue his campaign for the Republican presidential nomination.
