GOP-backed bill to ban vaccine passports in Pa. passes both Senate and House, but faces veto from Dem Gov.

A Republican-backed bill in Pennsylvania aimed to ban vaccine passports in the state is headed to Gov. Tom Wolf’s (D) desk after it was passed through the state’s House on Wednesday. The legislation would prohibit school districts, state-funded institutions of higher education and other government entities from mandating vaccine passports in order to enter buildings or receive services.
Though Democrats tried to argue not allowing the proof of vaccination would make it harder to keep the Pennsylvania population safe, Republicans said the move would simply be a government power grab.

“This is about taking away the decisions of local entities that have a duty to the pubic, and saying, ‘We’re going to dictate to you how to run your building,’” said Rep. Mike Sturla (D-Pa.).
Despite the legislation’s pass through both state chambers, Democrat Wolf has stated his intent to veto the bill.
