Whoopi Goldberg: Bible Supports Parents’ Right to Subject Children to Sex Reassignment Surgeries

Whoopi Goldberg has suggested that the Bible would support parents having the right to subject their minor children to sex reassignment surgeries. Goldberg made the comments during Thursday’s broadcast of ABC midday talk show “The View” — following a conversation about a trans-identifying Montana lawmaker who faced disciplinary action for breaking the rules of decorum.

Montana Lawmaker Faces Disciplinary Action

Rep. Zooey Zephyr (D-Missoula), a biological male who identifies as female, lashed out at Republican colleagues who opposed transgender surgeries for minors. The GOP-controlled state House voted to censure Zephyr, barring the lawmaker from appearing in the House but allowing votes by remote through the end of the current legislative session.

Goldberg and Hostin Criticize Move

Goldberg and co-host Sunny Hostin criticized the move, however, claiming it was proof that Republicans were banning speech. “Now, what the hell is going on in this country? That’s what I want to know,” Goldberg began, asserting that Republicans had simply voted to punish Zephyr because they didn’t like being forced to listen to an opposing point of view.

Parents’ Rights

Whoopi then turned to the argument that had gotten Zephyr banned — over a bill that would ban transgender surgeries for minors — and claimed that if the GOP believed in parental rights then parents should be able to consent to life-altering and irreversible procedures for their children. “My God, this is a party that says we believe in parents’ rights,” Goldberg shouted. “You’re telling me that as a parent, I don’t — I’m not smart enough to decide if my child and I need to have gender-affirming — or doctors are not involved.”

Goldberg did not explain what exactly God had been “really clear” about, but Hostin voiced her agreement.
