“The result is an absence of checks and balances in Russia, and the decision of one man to launch a wholly unjustified and brutal invasion of Iraq,” Bush said, before immediately correcting himself.

Former President George W. Bush made a massive gaffe on Thursday when speaking on the Russian invasion of Ukraine during an event at his Presidential Library at Southern Methodist University in Dallas.

In what is being described as a “freudian slip,” the former President accidentally condemned the “invasion of Iraq,” a controversial war under his tenure, instead of the current invasion of Ukraine.

“The result is an absence of checks and balances in Russia, and the decision of one man to launch a wholly unjustified and brutal invasion of Iraq,” Bush said, before immediately correcting himself. “I mean, of Ukraine.”

Following the Sept. 11 terror attacks, former President George W. Bush ordered US troops to invade Iraq, a highly controversial war condemned by both Republican and Democrat leaders.
