George Santos is the treasurer of his re-election campaign.

Representative George Santos Appoints Himself as Treasurer of His Re-Election Campaign Committee

Representative George Santos has made headlines once again, this time for appointing himself as the treasurer of his re-election campaign committee. This marks the fourth treasurer change for his campaign since the beginning of the year.

Upon the resignation of the previous treasurer, Santos stated on Twitter, “To ensure compliance, upon the resignation, I was named as Treasurer. A treasurer must be appointed within ten (10) days of the resignation of the previous treasurer.”

The Controversy Surrounding Santos’ Previous Treasurer

The identity of Santos’ previous treasurer has been a topic of controversy. Earlier this year, his campaign identified their treasurer as Andrew Olson. However, state and federal records did not have a record of anyone by that name who is a treasurer of any other federal committees or of any political committees operating in New York state. Additionally, Olson’s address was an apartment building and commercial complex that Santos’ sister resided at until earlier this year.

Indictment and Denial of Wrongdoing

This announcement comes less than two weeks after Santos was indicted in New York on 13 criminal charges, including wire fraud, money laundering, false statements to the House, and theft of public funds. Despite the charges, Santos has denied any wrongdoing and has pleaded not guilty.

When leaving federal custody, Santos told the press that he plans to run for re-election for New York’s Third Congressional District seat.

Competition for Santos’ Seat

Meanwhile, at least five candidates have declared their intention to run for Santos’ seat. Stay informed by subscribing to OAN’s breaking news blasts directly to your inbox for free.
