George Santos criticizes House lawmakers for their response to Henry Cuellar’s indictment

Disgraced former Rep. George Santos (R-NY) needled two Democratic members of Congress on Saturday over a recently unveiled indictment by the Department of Justice against Rep. Henry Cuellar (D-TX).
The Texas Democrat and his wife were indicted Friday over allegations that they accepted nearly $600,000 in bribes from two foreign entities, the government of Azerbaijan and a Mexican bank.
They each face 14 charges, including bribery, conspiracy, and money laundering.
Santos used the occasion to go after House members who introduced a resolution in February 2023 to expel him from Congress. He became the sixth member of the House to be forced out of Congress last December.

“Hey @RitchieTorres are you going to draft an expulsion resolution for Henry Cuellar?” Santos wrote in another post on X. “Or is that just for republicans who flip seats? Inquiring minds want to know.”
In March, Torres said he would introduce the “Getting Expelled Officially Revokes Guaranteed Entry” Rule after Santos made a surprise appearance during President Joe Biden’s State of the Union address.
The “GEORGE” Rule would prohibit former House members who had been voted out from using their privileges to gain floor access.
Rep. Dean Phillips (D-MN) became the first Democrat to publicly call for Cuellar’s ouster Friday evening.
“While the bar for Federal indictment is high, trust in our government is low,” Phillips wrote on X. “That’s why office holders and candidates under indictment should resign or end their campaigns, including Sen. Bob Menendez, Donald Trump, & Rep. Henry Cuellar.”

Cuellar denied wrongdoing hours before the indictment was announced. “Everything I have done in Congress has been to serve the people of South Texas,” he said.
