Individuals at George Mason University are petitioning to have Gov. Glenn Youngkin ( R., Va. ) over his conservative agenda as the graduation speaker for the school’s May commencement.

According to Fox 5 DC, more than 5,300 students signed a petition asking the university to remove the government as the commencement speaker because they disagreed with the Republican president’s policies.

Alaina Ruffin, who wrote the petition to challenge the school’s decision, claimed that” picking a speaker who has passed anti-trans policy, promoted the repeal of racial equity programs, and restricted the presence of books in public schools is an intentional goal towards historically marginalized communities comprising Mason.”

The complaint is being made at a time when universities across the country are getting involved in First Amendment debates as left-wing activists try to obstruct and remove traditional speakers. Kyle Duncan, a Fifth Circuit prosecutor, was yelled down by law students at Stanford University earlier this month. Following the law school dean’s apologies to Duncan, the student a staged a number of demonstrations.

Gregory Washington, chairman of George Mason, rejoiced when the commencement speaker was announced. We cultivate in all of our graduates Governor Youngkin’s desire for and learning and his entrepreneurial mindset, he said.

Administrators of both social gatherings frequently give speeches at the first initiation ceremonies, according to the president of George Mason College Republicans.

Youngkin’s executive order prohibiting the teaching of critical race theory and proposed regulations mandating that individuals in Virginia school use restrooms and participate in sports teams that are appropriate for their biological sex are two of his policies that have infuriated George Mason students.

A Pennsylvania Democrat state representative suggested last week that the condition might stop paying the University of Pittsburgh for allowing liberal speakers to speak on school.
