Funeral of slain Haiti President prompts protests

Haiti has said goodbye to assassinated President Jovenel Moise. On Friday, Moise’s widow closed the ceremony by calling on justice for her husband.
Meanwhile, gunfire and violent protests has erupted as individuals have expressed anger over questions on their president’s death. U.S. delegates have left the area for their safety.
The turmoil has pushed Haiti up on Biden’s foreign policy priorities as the U.S. State Department named a special envoy for the country. Daniel Foote, a member of the Foreign Service, was appointed to maintain stability and support throughout the upcoming presidential and legislative elections.

“They killed president Jovenel but they cannot kill his vision, nor his ideas, nor the dream he had for the country,” Martine Moise expressed. “We lost a battle, but not the war. The struggle is not over yet.”
Authorities say at least 26 suspects have been arrested for their alleged involvement in the president’s assassination.
