Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis Addresses Allegations of Misconduct
Fani Willis, the District Attorney of Fulton County, made a powerful public statement on Sunday, addressing the allegations of misconduct against her. “Wait a minute, God. You did not tell me as a woman of color it would not matter what I did — my motive, my talent, my ability, and my character would be constantly attacked,” Willis passionately read from a letter she had written. “Oh Lord, they’re going to be mad when they call us out on this nonsense. First thing they’ll say, ‘Oh, she’s going to play the racism card now.’”
“But no, God, isn’t it them who are playing the race card when they only questioned one? Isn’t it them playing the race card when they constantly think I need someone from some other jurisdiction in some other state to tell me how to do a job I’ve been doing almost 30 years?”
Willis shared a heartfelt letter she had written to God during a moment of prayer earlier in the week. In this letter, she described herself as an “imperfect” and “flawed” person, reflecting on the challenges she has faced throughout her tenure as district attorney.
While she did not explicitly mention Nathan Wade, Willis did mention hiring three special prosecutors and ensuring they were all paid the same hourly rate. She expressed her frustration that the one implicated in the allegations happens to be a black man, highlighting his “impeccable” credentials. It has been alleged that Wade has received $654,000 in legal fees from Fulton County since January 2022, according to a lawsuit filed by former Trump campaign official Michael Roman.
Willis acknowledged her own flaws but emphasized that she did not want to harbor hate, contrasting herself with Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA), who she claimed called for an investigation into her. Willis stressed the importance of allowing black women to stumble and granting them grace, rather than expecting perfection and the burden of saving the world.
“You cannot expect Black women to be perfect and save the world,” Willis said. “We need to be allowed to stumble. We need grace.”
Willis also revealed that she was a victim of a dangerous prank known as “swatting,” where an anonymous caller falsely reported a shooting at her home on Christmas night, leading to a police response. Similarly, judges overseeing Trump’s trials in New York and Washington, D.C., were also targeted by swatting incidents around the same time.
While neither Willis nor Wade have confirmed their relationship, Willis has been subpoenaed to testify in Wade’s divorce proceedings.
