Miami Mayor Francis Suarez has officially filed paperwork to run for president in 2024.

Miami GOP Mayor Francis Suarez Enters 2024 Presidential Race

Miami GOP Mayor Francis Suarez has officially filed paperwork with the Federal Election Commission, marking his entrance into the 2024 presidential race. Suarez, who has served two terms as mayor of Miami, joins two other Florida Republicans, Governor Ron DeSantis and former President Donald Trump, in the GOP primary.

Super PAC Releases Video Highlighting Mayor’s Success

A super PAC supporting Suarez wasted no time in launching a two-minute video blitz across three early nominating states. The video showcases the mayor’s achievements in reducing crime rates in Miami. These strategic moves come just before Suarez’s expected announcement of his candidacy for the Republican primary.

Suarez, who has been rumored as a potential running mate for Trump in 2024, expressed his gratitude for the consideration. “It’s flattering to be in any discussion for the vice presidency or the presidency,” Suarez said in an interview with CBS News. Reflecting on his humble beginnings as the child of Cuban exiles, he added, “I think that demonstrates the greatness of this country, that this country provides opportunities to everyone who cares about the American dream.”

DNC Accuses Suarez of Shady Business Dealings

Not everyone is thrilled about Suarez’s presidential bid. The Democratic National Committee (DNC) released a statement accusing the mayor of engaging in questionable business practices. Suarez is currently under investigation for accepting payments outside of his official position for private consulting. The DNC criticized his alleged prioritization of personal gain over the needs of the people he was elected to serve.

Other notable candidates in the Republican primary include former Vice President Mike Pence, Senator Tim Scott (R-SC), former U.N. Ambassador and South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley, entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy, former Arkansas Governor Asa Hutchinson, and former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie.

Trump’s Legal Troubles Continue

The filing of Suarez’s paperwork coincides with former President Donald Trump’s arraignment in a federal court in Miami. Trump pleaded not guilty to charges related to the FBI raid at his Mar-a-Lago resort last year. This makes him the first former U.S. president to face federal charges, including alleged violations of the Espionage Act.

Suarez is expected to make his formal announcement during his address at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation and Institute’s “A Time For Choosing” speaker series on Thursday.
