Fox anchor gets emotional while explaining the true significance of ‘risk’ on air.
A Fox Business Anchor Shares a Powerful Story About the Importance of Roots and Risk
In a departure from his usual financial prognostications, Charles Payne, a Fox Business anchor, took a moment to reflect on his family’s history and the sacrifices they made for a better future. He shared the story of his grandparents, who risked everything to acquire land for a farm in Alabama back in 1951.
Payne emphasized that his grandparents, a black family, saved up every penny they had to make this dream a reality. He highlighted the significance of their sacrifice, comparing it to the risks people take when investing in stocks like Amazon.
“They gave everything they had. They worked their a** off for years, and they gave it all for 60 acres to have their own. That’s a risk, folks. That’s a risk. I’m so grateful,” Payne said.
This heartfelt story is not the first time Payne has opened up about his family. In a Father’s Day post on Fox Business, he wrote about the strains his family experienced when they split up during his childhood.
“I called my father last Father’s Day and initially he sounded bitter. A lot of water had gone under the bridge – time we could never get back. I had only recently learned of how his harsh upbringing and protecting the country in Vietnam changed him, so I wanted to reach out,” Payne wrote.
Fortunately, the phone call with his father brought them closer together, but tragically, his father passed away just two weeks later. Payne cherishes the connection they reestablished and encourages all fathers to do their best for their children.
In a recent interview with Entrepreneur, Payne discussed his early years and the challenges he faced when his family broke up. Moving to Harlem with his mother exposed him to the harsh realities of poverty.
“I never thought about where heat or hot water even came from. Up until this point, I thought every place came with a fresh coat of paint, heat, hot water, and the things that most of us just take for granted,” he said.
Despite the difficulties, Payne hustled to make ends meet. He started by cleaning windshields at stoplights and eventually found a job at a bodega. It was during this time that he began thinking about money and the stock market as a way to provide for his family.
“I felt a responsibility to bring in the money we needed as a family. That’s when I thought of the stock market. I think we all think of Wall Street when we think of money, so I started reading ‘The Wall Street Journal,’” Payne shared.
Learning about the stock market was no easy task, but Payne persevered through the challenges and eventually found success in the financial industry.
Through his personal experiences and the stories of his family, Payne reminds us of the importance of roots and the risks we take to create a better future. It’s a powerful message that resonates with anyone striving for success.
