Two shooters have been identified, though police have only released the name of one, 18-year-old Nasir Ahmad Bostic. The other shooter was only identified as a juvenile. Both were shot and are facing multiple charges. Police have said they were known to each other.
“Concord Police, Concord Fire, and Cabarrus County EMS personnel were already at the event and responded immediately, providing medical aid and evacuating attendees,” a statement from Concord said.
Police said they’re reviewing footage of the event and interviewing witnesses.
The Christmas tree lighting ceremony was attended by hundreds of people, including musicians who performed on a stage. Footage and pictures from the incident showed people taking cover in nearby buildings, while other crowds fled the scene.
The annual Christmas tree lighting ceremony is largely a family event, with footage showing many young children on the scene.
