Former Reuters Science Reporter: Media Is Lying About “Climate Crisis”

It is “lying” Too strong a word? “Corrupt” Perhaps it is better to describe how media have become a propaganda amplifier. Neil Winton, yesterday’s Daily Sceptic.. Winton, a former science-tech reporter, was editor at Reuters for 32 year. She had access both to the best minds in these fields and to the data and studies that they produced.

At first, Winton believed the hysteria from the activists — until the scientists and the data convinced him otherwise:

The global warming story was a top priority when I became Reuters’ global Science and Technology correspondent in the mid-1990s. The BBC had already started scaring us by threatening to kill us unless humanity reformed its selfish ways. Carbon dioxide (CO2) was the culprit. It had to be tamed and then eliminated. There was no evidence to support this belief. I was wrong.

I had access to some of the most respected climate scientists in the world through my Reuters credentials. I was shocked to discover that none of them would categorically state that the link between global warming and CO2 is a scientific fact. Some claimed that the human production of carbon dioxide was a possible cause. Others suggested it could make a contribution. Still others said that CO2 played no role. Everyone agreed that the climate has warmed over the past 10,000 years since the ice age ended, but not everyone knew why. Sun radiation, which is subject to change over time, was the preferred culprit.

That kind of balanced reporting — relating the facts and the arguments from both sides — eventually disappeared, at Reuters as well as at most other media outlets. Winton first blames it on sheer laziness.

Even then, the mainstream media seemed to lack the energy and succumbed to the BBC’s flawed, opinionated thesis. It was too difficult to point out that many outstanding scientists challenged the BBC’s conclusion.

Could it be explained by laziness? Winton claims that while it may be an individual issue, the industry has sold out itself to the activists. Reuters and others began partnering up with Covering Climate Now, an activist group. “contextualize” Its reporting on weather-related incidents. CCN has also partnered ABC, CBS and Bloomberg with AFP and other news organizations that have similar relationships to climate-change groups.

CCN and its partners claim that they are fair, but Winton claims that they behave very differently in real life.

CCN may claim to be fair and balanced, but it not only won’t tolerate criticism, it brandishes the unethical ‘denier’ weapon with its nasty holocaust denier echoes. CCN seeks demonization of those who disagree with its views by savagery and denial of a hearing. This is in place to use debate to support its case.

CCN suggests journalists add to stories on flooding and bad weather in order to show that climate change has made these events more severe. This is not an established fact as a simple routine test would show.

CCN is not a regulatory body and activists don’t have any real support or authority. Why has this media opted to ignore journalistic practices and principles in favor of using stealth methods for making claims that are not supported by science and data? Winton believes that the media industry has intentionally promoted climate hysteria, in order to generate a feeling of emergency that will enable the Left to get what it cannot through reasoned debate and argument.

The Left had lost all its economic arguments by 1990s and its activists eagerly grabbed any chance to argue that small government and free markets couldn’t stop climate change. Only government intervention was possible. To let capitalism run amok was one way to end the world. Smart Lefties need to take control and save us all.

“Smart Lefties” This would include those at the top of news media. They must believe that.

Climate-hysteria skeptics have known for years that news reporting has been corrupted into narrative journalism. Until recently, however, that revolution-by-evolution process hadn’t become apparent to most of the rest of the populace. Now, however, with all sorts of new data coming out about masks and natural immunity in the COVID pandemic, many more people have seen The Science® exposed as based entirely on political agenda. Expect to see a lot more skepticism on the Sky Is Falling narrative — and especially directed at those who keep trying to serve it up, either as entrées or side dishes.
