Former NFL Receiver Mike Williams Dies at 36 After Construction Site Accident
Tragic news struck the NFL community as former receiver Mike Williams passed away at the age of 36. The incident occurred on a construction site, resulting in complications that ultimately led to his untimely death.
According to WIVB, Williams was taken off life support at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Tampa, Florida, after being on a ventilator since August 21. The accident involved Williams being struck in the head by a steel beam while performing electrical work. Unfortunately, the cut on his head became infected, worsening his condition. He was admitted to the hospital and eventually placed in a coma.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Williams’ former team, expressed their condolences in a statement, saying, “We are saddened to hear of the untimely death of Mike Williams, which has left our organization, his former teammates, and fans with heavy hearts. We send our deepest sympathies to his family and loved ones as they mourn this tragedy.”

Williams was a fourth-round pick in the 2010 NFL Draft from Syracuse University. He played five seasons in the league, spending four with the Buccaneers, one with the Buffalo Bills, and briefly appearing on the roster of the Kansas City Chiefs.
The Buffalo Bills also expressed their condolences, stating, “We are saddened to learn that former Bills Wide Receiver Mike Williams has passed away. Our deepest condolences are with his friends and family.”

Throughout his career, Williams made significant contributions, accumulating 223 catches for 3,089 yards and 26 touchdowns in over 60 games played.
Tierney Lyle, the mother of Williams’ 8-year-old daughter, shared a touching moment at the hospital. She revealed that their daughter told Williams, “I love you, daddy,” to which he responded with a grunting noise, acknowledging her affection.
