Former NBA Star Dwyane Wade’s Ex-Wife Claims He’s Exploiting Their Son, Files Motion to Stop Legal Name Change and Gender Transition Surgery
Former Miami Heat shooting guard Dwyane Wade’s ex-wife has petitioned a judge to prevent their child from undergoing destructive gender transition surgery before it’s too late.

Siohvaughan Funches-Wade has filed the necessary paperwork to prevent her son, who she shares custody of with her former husband, from having his name legally changed from Zion to “Zaya.” She has also petitioned the judge to stop Wade from mutilating their son via surgery. to undergo surgery which would turn him from a biological male into a transgender female.
Funches-Wade said that former husband Dwyane and his new wife Gabrielle Union have exploited the child, who “came out” as transgender at the age of 12 and is now 15, especially since they have paraded their son across television and have secured big figure modeling contracts that are dependent on the child going through with the gender reassignment surgery.
“I have concerns that (Dwyane) may be pressuring our child to move forward with the name and gender change in order to capitalize on the financial opportunities that he has received from companies,” said Funches-Wade in the official legal filing that was obtained by The Blast.

According to conversations between her and her ex-husband, she stated that Wade “told me that he intended to make our child very famous due to the name and gender issue and also informed me that there would be endorsements/contracts associated therewith.”
“I inquired what companies had made deals, or was willing to make deals, with (Dwyane) regarding our child. Zion, who was present at the time, answered that various companies were interested and that Disney was a prospective company,” she added.

“I am concerned,” Funches-Wade states in the legal documents, “that our child is being commercialized at a young age and also of the uncontrollable consequences of media exposure i.e. cyberbullying, statements and/or pictures taken out of context of our child, and the unwanted spotlight focused on our child.”
The Blast also notes the document details that Wade “has no right to make this decision based on the fact that the ex-couple’s custody agreement is in Illinois.”

The parents divorced in 2011, and since then Funches-Wade has tried to legally obtain full custody of Zion. In August when Wade pushed for the legal change of the child’s name, Funches-Wade was not informed until just when it was about to happen, and claims she was only informed “as a courtesy,” treating her like her rights as a parent didn’t matter.
