Former Border Patrol chief claims Trump administration wants him ‘killed’
Gregory Bovino, a former U.S. Customs and Border Protection Commander-at-Large, publicly claimed on The Tucker Carlson Show that he believes the Trump administration wanted him dead. Bovino served in this role from October 2025 until his reassignment and eventual retirement in March 2026, after backlash related to the death of two U.S. citizens by ICE officers in Minnesota. Following his retirement, Bovino reported that his security detail was removed despite ongoing death threats, and he accused high-level officials, including Rodney Scott and Thomas Homan, of wanting him dead-a claim he clarified did not imply that President Trump shared this intent. Bovino suggested that if trump knew what actions had been taken against him and other officials who dissent, he might have a strong reaction. He also criticized the media for doxxing him and noted that his family members have received threats.Bovino recounted that the FBI had to intercept all his mail due to threatening communications.When questioned by Carlson, Bovino speculated that political pressure from “cheap labor politicians” might be responsible for these threats, although he could not specify exact reasons.

Bovino served in the commander role from October 2025 to January 2026 before he was reassigned following public backlash in Minnesota after two U.S. citizens, Alex Pretti and Renee Good, were killed by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers. He later retired in March 2026.
Following his retirement, Bovino told Carlson that his security detail was removed despite continuous death threats. Carlson questioned why Bovino’s security was taken, pointing out that Dr. Anthony Fauci maintained U.S. Secret Service protection despite accusations of criminal conduct.
Bovino said he believes the Trump administration wanted to “silence” him.
U.S. Border Patrol Commissioner Rodney S. Scott was allegedly the one to remove his security detail, Bovino said, naming both Scott and White House “Border Czar” Thomas Homan on the list of those wanting him dead. Bovino clarified he didn’t believe the president, himself, wanted him dead.
“I think if Trump knew what they had done and what they would do to Border Patrol agents or ICE officers, or anyone who disagrees with them, I think he would have an absolute panic attack — or, uh, heart attack,” Bovino said.
Members of the media were called out for “doxxing” Bovino, who named WBTV-3 from Charlotte, North Carolina, among the perpetrators. Family members of Bovino have also received numerous death threats.

“There was one point where the FBI had to intercept every single piece of mail because there was some bad stuff coming in,” Bovino said.
When Carlson pressed Bovino on why he believed this was happening, the retired commander couldn’t nail down a specific reason, but mentioned “cheap labor politicians” placing pressure on officials.
