September SNAP payments will reach four states within four days.
Four States Send SNAP Payments on the 1st of the Month
Get ready, because Alaska, North Dakota, Rhode Island, and Vermont are about to send out all Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) payments to eligible households in just four days! These four states are the only ones that send out SNAP payments on the 1st of the month, making it a special occasion for those who rely on this assistance.
Unique SNAP Benefits in Alaska and Hawaii
Did you know that Alaska and Hawaii have different amounts for SNAP benefits compared to other states? In Alaska, the maximum monthly payment depends on where a resident lives, with the state divided into three regions: Rural I, Rural II, and Urban. This means that households in different areas can receive varying amounts of assistance.
- In Rural I, households of one can receive a maximum payment of $293.
- In Rural II, households of one can receive a maximum payment of $357.
- In Urban areas, households of one can receive a maximum payment of $230.
For larger households, the maximum payments increase accordingly. For example, households of eight can receive $1,762 in Rural I, $2,145 in Rural II, and $1,382 in Urban areas.
On the other hand, in North Dakota, Rhode Island, and Vermont, the maximum payments are the same. For a household of one, the maximum SNAP payment is $281. For a household of four, it’s $939, and for a household of eight, it’s $1,691. An additional $211 is added for each additional household member.
Over 348,400 People Benefit from SNAP in These Four States
When we combine the numbers from all four states, we find that approximately 348,400 people collect SNAP benefits. This program plays a crucial role in supporting individuals and families in need, ensuring they have access to nutritious food.

Using SNAP Benefits for Essential Food Items
SNAP benefits are reloaded onto an electronic benefits transfer card each month, allowing recipients to purchase essential food items at participating locations. These include grocery stores, farmers markets, and even some online retailers.
With SNAP benefits, you can buy a variety of food items, such as fruits, vegetables, meat, poultry, fish, dairy products, bread, cereal, snack foods, and nonalcoholic beverages. It’s a great way to ensure that you and your family have access to a balanced and nutritious diet.
However, it’s important to note that SNAP benefits cannot be used for alcohol, cigarettes, tobacco products, vitamins, prepared foods, hot foods, or nonfood items like pet food, cleaning supplies, or cosmetics.
