Delaware’s April SNAP benefits, totaling up to $1,751, end in 12 days

Delaware’s Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program will finish sending April payments worth up to $1,751 in 12 days.

The First State begins the distribution of SNAP payments on the 2nd of each month. Payments are distributed for most of the month. The first letters of recipients’ last names determine the issuance dates for their payments.

April’s payments began distribution on April 2 and will conclude distribution on April 23.

A household’s income cannot exceed 200% of the federal poverty level to qualify for SNAP payments in Delaware. A single-person household cannot have a monthly income above $2,266, while a household of eight cannot make more than $7,772 monthly.

Other factors, such as the value of assets, are taken into account. Those who are eligible can apply for SNAP benefits here.

SNAP payment amounts are determined by household size. Single-person households receive a maximum of $291, and eight-person households receive $1,751. In households larger than eight, $219 is included for each additional person.

Those aged 21 and younger who live with their parents must apply with them.

Delaware SNAP payments are automatically loaded on Delaware Food First electronic benefits transfer cards, which can be used as debit cards for food and nonalcoholic drinks. The funds cannot be used on luxuries such as alcohol and tobacco products.

The funds received each month stay on the card without expiring as long as the card remains in regular use. To check the amounts remaining on their Delaware Food First cards, recipients can look at their prior grocery receipts.

SNAP was created through the 1964 Food Stamp Act as one of President Lyndon B. Johnson‘s Great Society programs. It aims to improve the nutrition of people with low incomes by supplementing their food costs.
