Following Financial Scandals, Resignation From BLM, Patrisse Cullors Invited To Give UCLA Commencement Speech

Black Lives Matter (BLM) co-founder Patrisse Cullors will deliver the commencement speech at the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) Luskin School of Public Affairs virtual graduation ceremony on Friday, the school announced.

The UCLA commencement announcement published June 1 put Cullors’ name in the release’s title above other commencement speakers such as Democratic California Rep. Ted Lieu. Cullors has described herself as a “trained Marxist,” despite making enough money to amass millions in real estate. The university made no mention of activities such as funneling BLM funds towards the father of her only child that ultimately seem to have precipitated her resignation from BLM.

Cullors has bought four homes since 2016 costing a grand total of $3.2 million, according to the New York Post. The most recent purchase was a $1.4 million home in Los Angeles’ Topanga Canyon neighborhood, and used a corporate entity under her control to make the purchase, celebrity real estate blog Dirt claimed. Cullors owns two other homes in the Los Angeles area, the New York Post reported. The first is a $510,000 home in Inglewood that she purchased in 2016, and the other a $590,000 home purchased in 2018. Cullors also owns a $450,000 home near Atlanta, Georgia, according to the New York Post.

The revelations caused some activists to call for an audit of BLM to find out exactly where the organization’s money is going.

The Daily Caller News Foundation also reported Cullors made more than $20,000 a month as chairwoman of Reform LA Jails in 2019. Reform LA Jails paid Cullor’s consulting firm, Janaya and Patrisse Consulting, nearly $200,000 in 2019 alone. That same year, Reform LA Jails doled out $26,000 at luxurious Malibu beach resorts for “meetings,” the DCNF reported. The group also hosted a day party at actress Jane Fonda’s house, which featured live music and local artists.

During the 2020 presidential election, Black Lives Matter PAC — led by Cullors at the time — hosted an election coverage live stream on her personal YouTube channel. Black Lives Matter PAC paid nearly $150,000 to Trap Heals, an art company run by the father of Cullors’ child, for a live-stream hampered with technical issues.

Industry experts reportedly said the Black Lives Matter PAC was “severely overcharged” for the live stream.

Subsequent reporting from the DCNF revealed that Cullors also funneled business to Trap Heals from at least two other organizations that Cullors founded or headed. From 2018 to 2020, Trap Heals made almost $250,000 off of business with Cullors’ organizations.
