Florida lawmaker and veteran moved to tears while reflecting on Memorial Day

Ahead of Memorial Day weekend, military veteran Rep. Brian Mast (R-FL) remembered those who have made the ultimate sacrifice, choking up as he recalled “seeing flags draped over the casket of my friends.”

“When we get around Memorial Day, I think about the sacrifice of friends that I’ve lost,” Mast said during a Newsmax interview. “Sometimes when I hear ‘Taps’ just playing in the background, I mean, I’ve just heard it too many times.”

Mast added that he spent the Thursday before Memorial Day helping clean the Vietnam Memorial, saying “he couldn’t help but weep” when remembering the men and women who gave their lives for the United States.
