Florida says state DMV victim of cyberattack
Florida officials announced that the state’s Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles was targeted in a cyberattack. The investigation revealed that an “international cybercriminal institution” breached the system after hacking a single police department employee’s credentials, which were improperly stored on a personal device. The breach was discovered on September 4,prompting an inquiry into the incident.

Florida’s DMV said it is investigating a data breach by an “international cybercriminal organization” that it learned about on Sept. 4. Officials said a hacker breached a single Plant City Police Department user’s credentials that were “improperly housed on the employee’s personal electronic device.”
