New York City Mayor Sounds the Alarm on Unrestrained Immigration

In April, New York City mayor ⁣Eric ⁣Adams’s (D.) ‍administration ⁣launched‌ a campaign to celebrate ‍immigrants. Now, Adams⁤ says unrestrained immigration “will destroy New York City.”

Adams initially praised immigrants‍ for their contributions⁢ to the city’s cultural richness and economic prosperity when he announced the launch of the “We Love Immigrant New York” campaign.

However, the mayor’s stance seems to have changed as hundreds of thousands of migrants continue to pour across the southern border this year. Despite the Biden administration’s claims,⁢ the surge has not subsided since President Joe Biden allowed the border security measure Title 42 to lapse, with the‍ largest number of migrants heading to New York.

“This issue will destroy New York City,” ⁢Adams thundered ⁣on Wednesday. “We’re getting 10,000 migrants a month.”

The mayor warned that every community in the⁢ city will be impacted and that they will have to make cuts to essential services. He expressed concern that the city they once knew is on the verge of being lost.

Adams’s recent remarks mark a significant shift from his previous support for lax border policies.

During his campaign in October 2021, Adams declared that⁣ “New York City⁣ will remain a sanctuary city under an ⁢Adams administration.” His predecessor, Bill de Blasio (D.), reaffirmed New ⁢York’s sanctuary status in 2017 when then-president ‍Donald Trump halted funding to sanctuary cities.

Under Biden’s administration, which revoked Trump’s order, illegal border crossings have reached record numbers. In the past year alone, ⁤the United States has witnessed over 2.76 million illegal crossings.
