Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) said if health bureaucrats get their way, students will be forced to wear face masks forever. During an interview over the weekend, the Republican said he won’t be surprised if the CDC’s next move is getting students to wear face coverings every flu season.
Forcing kids to wear masks is bad policy. Parents are best equipped to decide whether they want their kids to wear a mask in school. Neither bureaucrats in Washington nor local authorities should be able to override the decision of the parents. pic.twitter.com/1TyFByAaWf

The CDC recommended all students wear face coverings indoors, just weeks after admitting schools are one of the lowest risk environments for COVID-19 transmission. DeSantis warned the agency’s guidance is out-of-touch with what most Americans want, which ultimately led him to sign an executive order last weekend that makes masks optional in public schools.
Meanwhile, public schools in Florida are set to open for in-person learning this month.
