Film Site Says Faith-Based “Nefarious” Among Most Anticipated Movies

Christian-based films are seeing a resurgence. Yet again.

This past weekend, “Jesus Revolution” crossed the $50 million mark at the box office, surpassing many of last year’s Oscar contenders.

Angel Studios, with its first cinematic release, “His Only Son,” landed third place and earned a “fresh” rating of 95 percent from Rotten Tomatoes. Last year, the studio’s successful series, “The Chosen,” enjoyed a theatrical release and raked in money once again.

An upcoming horror film, “Nefarious,” with an unusual spiritual twist, has been causing quite a stir online.

The movie tells the story of a psychiatrist (Jordan Belfi), who is assigned to evaluate a death-row inmate (Sean Patrick Flanery), who claims he is possessed by the devil, and must prove that he is not before his scheduled execution.

Nefarious | Opens In Theaters April 14

Based on the books by Blaze TV host Steve Peace and a spine-tingling trailer, “Nefarious” has become a must-see movie for many.

According to the website The-Numbers.com, which measures anticipation levels for upcoming movies, “Nefarious” was yesterday’s most anticipated film, ahead of movies with famous actors and big-studio support.

This chart shows the future movie releases that have attracted the most interest on The Numbers web site over the past 24 hours.

Although “Super Mario Bros. Movie” has since taken top spot, with expected earnings of $85-$90 million at its April 5 release, “Nefarious” is a promising contender, especially considering the impressive track record of low-budgeted faith-based films.

Much like “War Room,” “Fireproof,” and “God’s Not Dead,” these films can easily make a considerable profit for their creators.

In fact, “God’s Not Dead”alone made six times its original budget, earning $60 million at the box office.

Given that faith-based movie productions can surprise analysts, “Nefarious” may do the same when it hits selected theaters on April 14.
